The breakdown of any relationship can be one of the most traumatic and stressful experiences in anyone's life. At Oldhams, we believe that family law requires a different approach from many other areas of law in order to achieve a successful outcome. Quite often, an overly aggressive stance taken by lawyers and their clients will only serve to inflame animosity on both sides, often preventing a negotiated settlement from being reached. That is why our lawyers adopt Resolution's Code of Practice in dealing with family disputes in order to try to resolve these issues in a constructive and dignified manner. Having said that we will not hesitate in taking decisive and prompt action where appropriate, e.g. in order to protect a client's legal position or resolve a protracted case which is incapable of settlement.

Our family department is led by Martin Oldham, who has extensive experience in this area of law and who also sits part-time as a County Court Recorder and Coroner. All of our lawyers have considerable experience in this demanding area of law, whilst we have lawyers who are members of the Law Society's Child Panel and Family Panel (Advanced Status), demonstrating their high level of knowledge and expertise in family law.
